That's when I think technology in general is getting a bit out hand. I mean, you can make create machinery with all these "cool" features and upgrades, but one thing you can NEVER correct for is human error. It's just impossible to me, why wouldn't a person look in their blind spot before changing lanes in the first place?? I think if cars were programmed to drive themselves, there'd be a lot less accidents in the world.

This has been in my thoughts again recently because the ads have been running again.


It's this Volvo... where it beeps if someone is in your blind spot while changing lanes..... it beeps to remind you to hit the brakes if you're too close to someone....

Are we too lazy to turn our heads now before switching lanes?

And... if we're too busy trying to lean down and pick up files off the floor on the passenger side (like on the commercial)... we deserve to rear-end someone.

And the most hilarious one: it has a hearbeat sensor on the key remote to let you know if someone has broken into your car.

Um.. if this car is so technologically advanced.. how can anyone get into it in the FIRST PLACE??

To continue this, though... do you see/hear of any other crazy technological "improvements" you find to be totally useless?

Sadly enough "Back-up" Cameras have become neccessary somewhat, not so much because people aren't looking but more-so because the Vehicles are just getting too big. The larger these SUV's get the LARGER their blind spots get... I am definately not an advocate of these types of things, but I also know that there are children dying daily from people backing up and not seeing them... It speaks to alot of truths about this day and age. We are busier and not paying as much attention to our children, We are busier and not paying attention to where we are going, We are busier and not teaching our children to watch where they are going... In general we are a society that is busier but not better... IMHO

I'll take any "Safety features" they'll give, but leave the parking to me... I'm too much of a control freak in a car to have it trying to park itself >.<
