Cool. All right, without further delays here is a review I wrote late last night after I came back from the late show of ROTS at the theatre. It is a little long, so be warned!
1) Revenge of the Sith was much better than I originally thought it would be. The action/battle was phenominal and all of the duels were just brilliantly done in my opinion. Bravo for Mr. Gillard! *hand of applause* I loved the scene where Anakin and Obi Wan duked it out and went against each other. You could just feel the tension, emotion and passion in it all.
2) Seduction: A word and concept that was very well demonstrated. Ian McDiarmid gave a stunning performance as Palpatine/Darth Sidious. He was simply astonishing and stole the whole show. Hayden Christensen was also very wonderful and gave a striking performance as a young, lost and confused Jedi Knight. He showed us how greed and a simply yearning for more could lead you down the wrong path and the dangerous one. I was impressed by them both as they showed us the beginnings of a Sith Lord and apprentice relationship forming.
3) Emotion. There was certainly lots of emotion in this movie. Some scenes lacked emotion, while others triumphed in displaying it and not overexcessively. I thought that Padme's character had a lot of emotion, empathy and passion, yet seemed to be lacking something. We can't blame Natalie Portman here, because she did her best with some of the movie's most cheesiest lines. She played her part and was very torn in two. I liked the scene where she and Obi Wan had a chat in her apartment; that was a very good scene.
4) Reoccuring themes and motifs. I really liked how Lucas brought back in some reoccuring themes, including the struggle to do what is right, the struggle to achieve power and the struggle to protect. You could really see how Anakin was easily seduced by the dark side of the force, because he wanted so much power and was deceived in Palpatine's filthy lies. The whole reason he turns to the dark side is to try to gain more power and save his wife, Padme, from dying.
5) Other Comments: ROTS succeeded all of my expectations with flying colours. I was utterly impressed and had little to complain about. I loved how Obi Wan's character developped and was glad to see him so strong and brave in this one (not to say that he is never strong and brave of course ). There were a few things which I thought were cheesy, including the dialogue between Anakin and Padme in some scenes, Darth Vader at the end saying "Noooooooooo!" when he found out that he killed his wife, and so on.
In short, Revenge of the Sith is an excellent summer thriller. If you haven't seen it, make sure you do! And if you've already seen it...see it another time! I know I certainly will.
