Well it's official Knight Rider for the next generation has come about and I for one am a happy camper.
Here is a link to a pretty accurate KR site but I'll give a bit of a synopsis.
Knight-wiki
the following is an excerpt from the above site
"K.I.T.T.'s creator Charles Graiman has made a new K.I.T.T., the Knight Industries Three Thousand. His daughter, Sarah Graiman, and Michael Knight's son Mike Traceur, team up with the new K.I.T.T. to rescue Charles Graiman when he is kidnapped. They are helped by FBI agent Carrie Ruvai...."
Well a few things here first things first KITT is a 2008 Ford Mustang GT500KR (Cobra Mustang) and damn.. it's hawt! I love mustangs as many of you all know and to have the next generation KITT be a mustang just excites me more. I'm all for purity but a Pontiac Banshee or a Stealth body mod would just not be all that exciting. K.I.T.T.'s designation is now the Knight Industries Three Thousand, a much better idea than the 1991's movie sequal 4000 model.
Next, Mr Feeny from Boy Meets World, and the original voice of KITT from the 80's, WIlliam Daniels' voice would have been nice to plug in at any given moment or to even has the actor himself seen in this pilot movie woulda been great but alas.. no old school kitt here. Val Kilmer is filling the empty VOX that Mr. Daniels has left behind. For me I listened and discected the voice over and I could not place the voice at all. The overdubbing and voice synthing was a wonderful thing. KITT talked once again.
The story line is classic cheap 80's style though and in this I was slightly dissapointed. I expected either more drama, more action or more romance and I was left feeling shorted out. On the good side, I was left wanting more and was consistantly being brought back to the classic 80's episodes but nostalgia only last for so long.
The effects were expounded upon immensly. KITT now has the ability to "morph" into his Super Pursuit Mode (SPM) as well as change his color and license plate. It seems to all be a part of some kind of 3-D imaging program but that doesn't explain the SPM change over. Bullet impacts, KITT's signature "molecularly bonded shell" is more active as you see the impact force spread out and bullets crumple and fall away, a very nice effect.
Devon is dead so props for not bringing him into the story, and another wonderful idea of producers and writters to stay away from any G1 referrences save for David Hasselhoff reprising his role for 5 minutes as Micheal Knight. Other Character issues are; Knight's son. "Mike" was a special forces member in the Army .. very cliche and unoriginal .. FBI agent Carrie Ruvai is a lesbian.. I was pretty put off by this as it was the first thing you find out about this character and it's never even aluded too again. It's as if they put that in there to appease the affirmative action groups .. a big turn off for me. I am not against homosexuality or lesbianism, save my personal feelings, but I think there should be a reason for it.. and there was as much reason for this as there was to have "Mike"'s threesome scene later on in the show .. say it and be done with it. I don't need to see that Mike is just as much a womanizer as some female FBI agent and neither do my kids. Granted sex makes for good television but not when I want to share with my kids something that I cherrished as a kid myself.
All in all the pilot was good and I know there will be things to be cut from the main story and new things will be added in so I really can't wait to see the new series to begin. New and old fans of the series will love this new incarnation of this classic tale of how one man can make a difference.
